2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid – What’s coming for the 2023 Toyota Tacoma? If you think Ford or GMC dominates the sale of tough and manly pickups, you’re not entirely right. In fact, sales in 2020 were dominated by Toyota and their Tacoma. It is recorded that Toyota was able to sell 58, 920 Tacoma, while the Ford Ranger was “only” sold for about 28,350 units. This is one of the reasons why Tacoma is considered one of the most important lines in the company’s collections.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Redesign
Despite its popularity, the Tacoma is starting to look obsolete – the signs of aging are quite obvious, especially in the 2020 model. Therefore, the 2023 model is expected and planned to be a completely new truck. Of course, many changes will take place, including the possibility of a power and powertrain section.
Despite the last remake in 2016, the Toyota Tacoma is still an extremely popular pickup. The third-generation mid-size truck has since received several upgrades, such as a facelift last year and a new TRD lift kit in February. But if something is not broken, then it does not need to be repaired. Toyota could launch a fourth-generation Tacoma by 2024, but will continue to upgrade an existing model, such as the “two new adventure-ready” trim, which is scheduled to debut on June 2.
The carmaker has released one teaser image indicating that the 2022 model is undergoing an annual update. Two trucks are briefly shown, one of which is most likely the TRD Pro model, which is clearly identified by the TRD emblem on the wheel center cover.
On the left, the truck simply has a Toyota brand center cap, although the two seem to share a set of Goodyear Wrangler tires. The exterior color of the TRD version is also noteworthy. Based on current body color offerings, this appears to be a new option and is likely to be reserved for TRD Pro only. Under the hood, we expect to carry both a 2.7-liter four-cylinder with 159 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque, and an optional 3.5-liter V6 with 278 hp and 265 lb-ft, although the next-generation Tacoma is a guaranteed electric hybrid help alongside its Tundra big brother.
And when it comes to the next Tundra, Toyota also just released the first teaser image. No public date was given, only that it would “come soon”.
Whether it will debut with these new Tacoma decorations remains to be seen. What will be shown with the Tacomas is the 2022 edition of the Prius Nightshade, the latest Toyota model to receive a darkened style treatment.
The carmaker also recently announced in April that it has two new SUVs to be produced in Indiana. There is a good chance that one will be the successor to Sequoia and the other will be Lexus. Meanwhile, complete information about this Tacoma pair is only a week away, and the brand new Tundra is not far away.
Toyota is considered to be a new platform focusing on body frame construction. There are several vehicles that will use this architecture to launch – after all, it is designed for larger SUVs or trucks such as the Lexus LX and Tundra. However, the Tacoma will get a shorter wheelbase (from TNGA-F), which will probably also be used by the 4Runner and Hilux. The 2023 Toyota Tacoma truck will have two bed length options and also three cab styles.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid Engine and performance
It looks like Toyota will still use the same powertrain for its upcoming Tacoma. This means that the truck will come with a V6 engine with a capacity of 3.5 liters, which is matched with an automatic 10-speed transmission designed to deliver 354 hp. This layout works well for basic finishes.
What about electricity? Toyota can use powerful (but compact) batteries to maintain load capacity and traction, while focusing on power and an impressive fuel economy system. If the Tacoma comes with hybrid power, it will most likely use an 2.5-liter I4-based engine (similar to that found in Lexus and Toyota). It is believed to provide power from 208 hp to 245 hp – mainly depending on the trip. The RAV4 Prime plug with more powerful electric motors and a larger lithium-ion battery can deliver 302 hp. This happens with the Tocoma, the speed will improve, but it will affect the load capacity and traction.
It looks like Tacoma will continue to produce TRD with a variety of options, including TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro and TRD Sport. The TRD Pro is likely to be the strongest option due to its higher (ground) ground clearance, sliding plates, revised impacts and off-road tires.
2024 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid The final word
It is negligible for Toyota to change the already precise Toyota “formula”, given its popularity and favorable features. However, Toyota has its own challenges to keep Tacoma pleasant and modern. The company’s focus must be on Tacoma’s strength and ability to take advantage of the hybrid opportunity. Then, over time, the company can follow the steps of evolution. For now, we just have to wait for the further release and approval of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma.
