2023 Toyota Sequoia: Review, Release Date, Price and Specs
With no prototypes or even test mules to work from, this rendering is based on today’s model with an eye on popular car design trends. As such, the theme here is evolution-versus revolutionary, with Sequoia still easily recognizable in its new skin. Slimmer headlights with vertically oriented high beam headlights definitely have trendy design features and they help to give this Sequoia interpretation a clean, chiseled face. The grid doesn’t seem to grow in size, but its grid is a little more noticeable.
In the profile we see the impact of the RAV4. The angled body lines atop the front wing mirror wheel arches on the smaller SUV, although the Sequoia’s actual openings remain round. A slightly up-kink with a beltline and body line at the back door is another trendy design theme, as-is the RAV4-styled floating roof element on the D-pillar. On the back, this next gen Sequoia also takes a page from the RAV4 with similar lower bumpers and thin, edgy taillights.
While working in fiction, these renderings paint a very realistic picture of the future of Sequoia and could easily move on to the real thing. Whether Toyota has the same mindset is obviously unknown, but what is known is that the current Sequoia is old. In the very fast paced development of SUVs, the current model dates back to 2008. Toyota gave the Sequoia a very modest refresh in the 2018 model year, followed by the TRD Pro upfit in 2019. It’s never been a volume seller, though, and sales have slipped consistently since 2016 until just over 10,000 units shipped in 2019.
“Sequoia” is the best possible name for one of the longest lived SUVs in America. The current generation is over 12 years old and in desperate need of a makeover. In preparation for this, we’ve got an interesting rendering to show you.
Sequoia came out in 2000 (2001MY), the current and second generation is being launched in 2007. Despite a facelift in 2017, it is still not nearly as fresh as its main rivals. On the Russian website Kolesa thus considered it necessary to come up with a new style for the model year 2022.
Now it in no way reflects the style changes Toyota has planned. But we like them. Like most slow-selling body-on-frame SUVs (think Nissan Armada), it feels more like a facelift than an all-new vehicle. New headlights and taillights are obviously installed, but the bumpers are more character.
As a 3-row full-size vehicle, the Sequoia would compete with the Chevy Suburban. However, its relationship with this SUV is similar to that which exists between the Silverado truck and the Tundra. You will immediately realize that Toyota uses a V8 powertrain that is reliable enough to reach a million miles yet missing miles per gallon in the department.
If you take money from the equation, the 2010 Sequoia TRD Pro is awesome. It got that cool army green color and all-black trim package and under the hood is a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. Exhaust sound is one of the best in its class, but is that combo worth $ 65,000? You tell us.
Honestly, this is a very lucrative part of the SUV market, where people spend a lot of money on deforestation and black badges. Toyota loves the new Sequoia, but will probably have to start with pickup and work from there.
The current Toyota Tundra surprised us enough to earn the MotorTrend Truck of the Year award … in 2008. Since then, the Japanese automaker has only put on coats of lipstick in its aging pickup, while competitors such as the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150, GMC Sierra, and Ram 1500 received at least one full for the redesign. In other words, the Tundra is left in the dust. However, Toyota is finally doing something about it.
All-New Toyota Tundra 2022
The 2010 Toyota Tundra is designed to run on the company’s latest truck chassis. Reportedly invented by Toyota’s New Global Architecture-F (or TNGA-F), Tundra’s body-on-frame should benefit from greater use of high-strength steel and other weight-saving materials. Like the Ram 1500, we anticipate that the next gen Tundra will adopt coil springs in place of the current truck’s leaf springs, going with its live rear axle. This setting will definitely improve the driving quality of the truck. We also expect the lither 2.022 Tundra to significantly improve on the outgoing model’s maximum payload of 1,730-pounds and 10,200-pound towing figures. Of course, it will, with more modern light tax competitors offering capacity far beyond those dated numbers.
Twin Turbo 2022 Tundra
Say goodbye to Tundra’s V-8 engines, as Toyota’s big pickup will reportedly enter the world with a V-6-only powertrain lineup. Look for high-end Tundra variants using the variant 416-hp 3.4-liter unit found under the hood of the Lexus LS500. Lesser Tundras will likely use a naturally aspirated 278-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine from Tacoma (possibly massaged to produce more than 300 horses).
Given Toyota’s hybrid history, the brand may offer a 2022 Tundra with a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain, putting it on the vanguard segment, which is only now warming up to electrification. This setting will allow the Toyota truck to compete properly with the 2021 Ford F-150 and its available hybrid powertrain.
2010 Toyota Tundra’s Truck-Like Looks
Despite its relatively radical mechanical changes, the 2022 Toyota Tundra is expected to evolve beyond the style of today’s truck. This isn’t bad, because the current Tundra has finally grown into its own skin, the original version looked like a four-wheeled fish of its kind and comes across as harmless enough, if not completely beautiful. Still, the look of the big Toyota truck sports a brasher front-end design that includes a large grille and a long hood, providing a new tundra with a flashier mug.
Inside, the new Tundra will welcome Toyota’s latest Entune infotainment technology. It includes an affordable 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a large head-up display device. Toyota’s full safety sense suite of benefits is sure to be available, too, including automatic braking, advanced radar cruise control, automatic lane centering and lane keeping help, and much more.
2022 Toyota Tundra On-Sale date and price
While we expect Toyota to emulate the 2022 Tundra by mid-next year, we don’t expect the model to be rolling further away from Toyota’s San Antonio, Texas, factory and reaching dealers by the end of 2021. When it arrives, the 2010 Tundra may sport a base price close to the current truck figure of about $ 35,000, or the brand could rebuild a lower, less equipment-rich trim level lineup in an attempt to capture fleet or entry-level buyers.
No matter what, choosing a four-wheel drive, more technology, a larger cab or bed, and more powerful or advanced powertrain options will increase your truck’s cost. Plan to spend north of $ 55,000 to enter the 201022 Tundra’s pricier finish.
